Greetings, reader! At DNA Computers, we live by the mantra “work hard, play hard”, and that’s why we love our gaming PCs! We hope that if you’re reading this, you love your gaming PC, too. We understand the desire to get the best out of your gaming PC, and we are here to help you do just that. If you’re looking to get the best out of your “rig”, here are some gaming PC upgrades that will help you get the performance you need to defeat your adversaries and win the game, beginning as low as $39!
- Cooling
- Let’s talk cooling. A gaming PC without good cooling is like an athlete without lungs: you can’t perform if you can’t breathe! If your processor can’t get the airflow it needs to stay cool, your computer will grind to a halt from overheating, which is a gamer’s worst nightmare. Fortunately, it doesn’t require a trust fund to get good cooling in your PC! If you’re running the CPU cooler your PC came with, chances are it’s what’s known as the “stock” cooler; a token effort that will do just good enough. A better cooler can really up the ante, and they start as low as $39. With a better cooler, your CPU can clock itself higher, for longer. If you’re the kind of person who likes to tinker, better cooling can also give you the headroom you need to overclock your CPU. Either way, good cooling is definitely not something you want to ignore.
- SSD
- While we have talked about SSD’s here before, I’d be remiss if I didn’t mention them again when talking about gaming PCs. Of course your CPU and GPU are going to be critical for cranking out pixels, but having a sold state hard drive in your system makes everything load faster – from your favorite games to Microsoft Office, and helps you exploit the speed of your CPU by allowing it to get data as fast as it can work with it. SSD upgrades start at $179.
- Graphics Card
- Last but certainly not least on my list is the almighty graphics card (GPU). If you’re looking for the upgrade that will make the biggest difference in your gaming experience – this is it.
As the GPU is solely responsible for generating the 3D images you see on your screen, upgrading this part comes with a host of benefits, including higher framerates, increased detail, vivid textures, and eye-watering resolutions. Like cooling, depending on what you already have, a modern GPU that can do the job can be had for as little as about $149. Of course, this is an area where the sky is the limit – a top of the line GPU like the nVidia RTX 2080 Ti will run well over $1000, for one GPU! Unless you’re running a top of the line display or VR system, there is simply no need to spend anywhere near that much, in fact, only a fraction of that cost is necessary to have a great experience at resolutions up to 1440p.
- Last but certainly not least on my list is the almighty graphics card (GPU). If you’re looking for the upgrade that will make the biggest difference in your gaming experience – this is it.
As you’ve seen, there are a number of ways to upgrade a gaming computer and keep it in the fight. You can make improvements to your cooling so you can exploit the power you already have, you can install a SSD to speed up load times in games, and you can upgrade your GPU for maximum pixel-crushing ability. Whichever way you go, the knowledgeable people at DNA Computers are here to help you get the most out of your machine. Stop by and speak to someone today!
